Asus Eee - Packs Small, Plays Big

Now have a try: take a piece of A4 size notepad and fold it in half. This is the approximate size of the ASUS Eee. You are holding a device that is 7 x 6.5 x 1.4 inches. This computer is smaller than an average textbook, and a little larger than a Nintendo DS. It's a notebook computer that is lightweight, about 2 lbs, and has a lot of features. This small notebook is great for students, and for business travelers who don't want to carry the weight of conventional laptops.

The ASUS Eee is developed together by 2 innovative companies: Intel and AsusTek, a technology leader with one of the best teams in Research and Development, committed to innovative digital technology. In 2007, one in three desktop PCs were powered with the ASUS motherboards. The engineers specialized in electromagnetic interference, acoustics and superb details that birth customer satisfactions. The ASUS notebooks are the first TCO'99-certified notebooks worldwide.

The small notebooks are endorsed by the One Laptop Per Child organization. The mission of the non-profit organization is "to provide the children of developing nations to learn by providing one connected laptop to every child of school-age." The size and capacity of these laptops are excellent for educational software, allowing each child access to tools used to be connected technologically.

The ASUS Eee 700 Laptop series is the first subnotebook developed by ASUS. It was exhibited in Taiwan October 16, 2007. Intel, ASUS partner, described the Eee PC as part of Intel's "World Ahead" marketing, aimed to provide anyone the ability to own a PC. The price and size of the 700 are small compared to similar devices, such as FlyBook or LG P100 series. Since October 13, 2007 ASUS has changed the specifications, and re-named the ASUS 700 product series as EeePC 8G, 4G, 4G Surf, and 2G Surf instead of the model numbers 700 and 701.

The price of the 700 series is pretty affordable. Pricing for 2G is USD$299, for the 4G Surf USD$349, for the 4G USD$399, for the 8G USD$499.

The ASUS Eee 900 Subnotebook computer Series was exhibited in Hong-Kong on April 16, 2008. The 900 series started selling in the UK May 1, 2008 for £329 (approximately USD$650) and on May 12, 2008 in the US for USD$549. The 900 series dimensions are slightly larger than the 70x models - measuring 225 × 165 × 35 mm (WxDxH), or 9 x 6.5x 1.37 inches, and weighs approximately 2.21 lbs.
